The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
