The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
