The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
