The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
