The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
