The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
