The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
