The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
