The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
