The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord glorify 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
