The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
