The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
