The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
