The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
