The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
