The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
