The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
