In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
