The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
