The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
