The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
