The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
