The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
