The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
