The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
