The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
