Nay, by the Moon 32 By the receding night 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
