NAY, but consider the moon! 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Of evil-doers: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
