Nay! By the moon 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning unto humankind 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
