No, by the moon! 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 Warn the men. 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
