Nay! By the moon 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning for people -- 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 concerning the sinners, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
