I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the receding night 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 it is a warning to man, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 From the guilty. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
