By the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 About the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
