I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except the people of the right hand 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
