Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 Warn the men. 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 we fed not the needy, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 "And used to deny the Day of Justice." 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
