I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning unto humankind 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 who will be in Paradise 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 like frightened donkeys 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
