By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 about the sinners. 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
