Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 a warning to humans, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
