No, by the moon! 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mortals, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 About the criminals, 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
