By the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Indeed hell is one of the greatest entities. 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 Of evil-doers: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
