Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 in Gardens they will question 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
