Nay, and by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
