I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 a warning to humans, 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except the people of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 about the guilty ones: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
