Nay, and by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As they were frightened asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
