Nay, by the Moon 32 by the retreating night, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 About the guilty: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
