No, by the moon! 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens they will question 40 From the guilty. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
