By the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 like frightened donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
