Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
