Nay! By the moon 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Till death overtook us. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
