Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 From the guilty. 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
